Brownlee Tri South

HTC members Ian Passmore, Kevin Briggs and Graham Kempster attended the event and here is a brief report from Graham.

To receive the message ‘We Regret to inform you that the Macmillan Brownlee Tri will now be a duathlon – Run Bike Run’ via text at 21:36 during the first half of the football wasn’t the worst time to break the news but it seemed quite late in the day. In the end, even though I was coming back from a run injury I was still pleased I could relax a little knowing I wouldn’t be needing my wetsuit and all the extra transition faff that goes with it.

With a start time of 10:50, my latest ever start to an event, it was great to be able to start the day slowly and not too early. In fact I found out […]

Go Tri June 2014

Saturday 14th June saw the second Go Tri event for Horsham Tri Club take place at Pavillions in the Park, Horsham. It was a warm day and there were plenty of people in the park cheering on the competitors as they completed a 200m pool swim and a 3.4km run. The competitors were aged between 14 and 71 years old with many people having their first ever taste of a multisport event. There were quite a few nerves and plenty of excitement as they lined up to start the event and they cheered each other on to complete the course.

The fastest male on the course, and beating the current course record was Paul Oakley from Horsham in a time of 17.59, and the fastest female was Helen Peters from Old Coulsdon in a time of 22.53.

If you want to join […]

Go Tri Success

The sun came out just as the club volunteers arrived at Horsham Park to set up for the very first Horsham Go Tri event, a welcome sight after the heavy rain forecast throughout the week. The Aquathlon event, consisting of a 200m pool swim and a 3.4km run was a roaring success for Horsham Tri Club as their first self organised event. It was good to see the event was supported from the sidelines by Jenny Vincent, Triathlon England, and Ian Ford, Horsham District Council Sports Development Officer. The competitors, aged between 14 and 56 years old, arrived at Pavillions in the Park with excitement, aniticipation and quite a few nerves, for many this was their first experience of a multisport event. Nonetheless they all cheered each other on and completed the course with plenty of smiles.

The fastest male of […]

Portsmouth Coastal Half Marathon

Well done to Emma Cox who completed her first half last Sunday in gloomy, cold and blustery conditions. (Her first smile of the day by the sounds of it!).

Novice Bike Maintenance Workshop

‘Getting Greasy’ A report by Laura

One of the perks of being a triathlete is the range of equipment and gear you have….one of the most expensive items being the bike! Which we often neglect by not giving it the TLC it needs. Our trainer, Simon, a City and Guilds qualified cycle mechanic from Horsham Cycles, came to savvy some less experienced bike mechanic club members on top tips to keep us safe and out on our bikes!

The basic‘M’-check  is one check that all triathletes should do on a regular basis. It involves conducting a safety check of all the main working parts of a bike and with practice we all will be […]

Kinetica Spring Ballbuster Report 2nd March 2013

6.30 Saturday 2nd March and its 1°c at the top of Box Hill in Surrey, where I’ve just arrived to register for my 4th attempt at the BallBuster Duathlon. For the uninitiated the race comprises of 5 x 8 mile circular laps starting at the top of Box Hill and travelling in an anti-clockwise direction with each lap being completed with an ascent of the Zig-Zag road. The first lap is an 8 mile run with laps 2-4 giving a 24mile cycle finishing with another 8 mile run. Not the easiest race in the world but one that gives a certain amount of satisfaction when you cross the finish line.

Once registered straight to transition to lay out my kit for the first of many checks before the off.

Promptly at 8.00 and with the temperature up to a balmy 1.5c we’re […]
